All right, so it’s New Year’s which means most people, myself included, are making resolutions to have a happy and healthy 2012. Well, I thought of five easy tips to make sure you (and I ) keep those resolutions going throughout the year:) Here they are…
- Be Specific: It doesn’t matter who you consult…Oprah, The Secret, your high school academic advisor…in order for anyone insure they’re successful at attaining their goal they have to be specific about what that goal is. Saying “I want to get healthier” is a good start but picking specific goals like ” drinking 8 glasses of water per day” or “working out four days a week” are less amorphous meaning you’re more likely to complete them.
- Write Them Down: When you write something down it becomes real. I find writing my goals and resolutions down makes me accountable for them and it really helps me plan for success.
- Be Realistic: Okay this might be one of the most important when it comes to New Year’s resolutions. After all… “Success is the results of small efforts repeated day in and day out.” Don’t worry about losing 20 pounds or making it to the gym everyday, just find a goal that’s realistic like eating five or six servings of fruits and veggies a day, strength training twice a week or taking the time to do five minutes a makeup in the morning. Once one of those goals becomes easy-peasy then you can move onto a more ambitious goals and so on and so on!
- Track Your Progress: I like to revisit my goals weekly (particularly on Sunday’s before the craziness starts) to check up on my progress. This is a great way to stay accountable and make any necessary adjustments.
- Give Yourself a Break: Actually I think this is them most important tip when it comes to resolutions. Don’t beat yourself up if you slip from your goals now and then. Come on, who hasn’t eaten a few too many cookies or chosen to grab happy our instead of hitting the gym:) Don’t let a slip up derail all the hard work you’ve put in, every morning is a chance to just hop right back on the resolution bandwagon.
Here’s to a fit and fab 2012!
